With the exception of Michael Anthony, who was decked out in his red white and blue for the 4th of July, and the toast we made at the BBQ, there was hardly any mention of the 4th of July. The weekend was full of time spent with family, which I always love.
Chris and Ericka had family over for a little get together in honor of both Germany´s victory over Argentina in the World Cup (we are a big German family, both sides of Phillip´s family are of German descent and also my mother's family) as well as the birthday of my mother-in-law´s youngest brother, Herman...who is better known as Sufi. Both Chris and Sufi blew out the candles on the cake because Chris just celebrated his birthday at the end of June. It was a really nice night and I was so happy to meet even more of my mother-in-law´s family on the Wanke (Vahn-kay) side.
Michael Anthony was in his element all night long and at one point he went around the room handing each of us a peanut from the bowl of peanuts on the table, only he would only give us the peanut if he could put it in our mouths. It was really cute. After distributing peanuts, he then went around the room giving each person a hug. What a sweetie. It was adorable.
Aside from the family, we also had a lizard pay us a visit (which I think it just soooo cool, even if they are considered pests around here), that was climbing up and down the wall which no one seemed to notice, except this animal-lover here. I just can´t get enough of the "lagartijas".
The next day was the 4th of July so Chris, Ericka, Michael Anthony and I headed over to visit the Zeller side of the family, my father-in-law´s brother Vincent and his family. I´ve met the Zellers many times so it was a nice reunion. All of the cousins are around the same age and we get along so well, all of us talking in both Spanish and English, which has to be one of my favorite things about our get togethers. Nearly all of us are bilingual to some degree and most of the Zellers speak German as well.
Phil´s cousin Johann BBQéd for us and it was delicious! Michael Anthony was the only one brave enough to jump in the pool but he quickly jumped back out because it was cold. We had a good time laughing about different baby names. Phil´s cousin Vincent joked that he´d like to have 3 sons, all with the middle name "Evil". He would then name the first "Slightly", the second "Extreme" and the third "Ultimate". I think that conversation stemmed from Chris´s idea to name his son "Darth" after his obsession with Star Wars. We had a good time laughing about the possibilities.
I will post photos as soon as I find a computer where I can download my pictures. Hopefully by this weekend at the latest.
