Day and Night of Relaxing in Cuzco

Thanks for booking me such a nice hotel room, Phillip! My frustration with Cuzco definitely calmed down quite a bit by the end of my stay and all it took was a comfy bed, a hot shower very near by, some American television, complimentary ear plugs (as defense against the 8am fireworks and drums on the plaza), and knowing the right restaurant to have lunch in on Friday afternoon.

I was able to check in to the Del Prado Inn, right off the Plaza de Armas by 9:30 am, just after Phil left for the airport. A very nice hotel, complete with original Inca walls in the dining room and a single room available for me the moment I arrived. It was a dream come true for this tired prego. I wrote in my journal, read my book, watched TV, took a hot shower, checked my e-mail...and once I felt a little bit more human again, I ventured out to have a yummy lunch at Cicciolina's: fresh lemonade with mint, house marinated olives, a grilled vegetable sandwich and some warm strawberries with a port sauce and pisco ice cream for dessert. Mmmmmm. I felt so rejuvenated that I didn't even allow the fact that I had lost one of my contact lenses and was now a cyclops, with one blurry eye and one clear eye, to bother me.

There was yet another festival happening in the Plaza de Armas, complete with drums and flutes and lots of children dancing in the streets. People were wearing full traditional dress and were pushing large floats. I even saw a float of a giant guinea pig. I wish I could have captured that on my camera, but alas, I'm not a quick draw.
